The Children of Emilie Wesselowski and Efroim Franz Brück

These are the biographies of the 7 children of Emilie Wesselowski and Efroim Franz Brück. They ended up all over the world in Germany, the USA, and Brazil. Several faced persecution as a result of being ethnic Jews during Nazi Germany.

Martha Brück

Birth Record of Martha Brück

Martha was born in Germany on the 23rd of August, 1886. This information comes from her birth certificate, her gravestone has her being born a year later in 1887. She married Jaques Tuckler on the 24th of December 1906 in Germany. She and her husband left a port in Le Havre, France on the 1st of March 1939. Seven days later she and her husband arrived in New York, USA. From that point forward their last name became Tuchler. They moved to California where they lived out the rest of their lives. Martha was buried in the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Her headstone there is inscribed with the Star of David. You can see her memorial here. As far as I know, she had no children but I could be mistaken.

Lilly Brück

Lilly was born in Germany on the 25th of  February, 1889. On the 7th of July, 1910, she married Leo Cohn in Hamburg, Germany. In 1911, their daughter Ada June Cohn was born and in 1917 their daughter Vera Gretchen Cohn was born, both in Germany. After Leo died, the family immigrated on an unknown date to California, USA. Once in America Lilly became a piano teacher. In 1948 she filed a naturalization petition. She was described as having a light complexion, brown eyes, and greyish black hair. She was 5' 3" and 160 pounds. Her left ankle was deformed. At the time of her petition, her daughter Vera Gretchen was living in Oakland, California, and her daughter Ada June was living in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. At the time of her naturalization on August 23rd of 1954, Lilly was living at 1443 Sixth Ave., Oakland, California. When she died on December 30th, 1979, she was living at Oakland, 94611, Alameda, California, USA. She was buried in the home of eternity cemetery, where her plaque is inscribed with "beloved mother and grandmother". You can see her memorial here.

Gretchen Brück

Gretchen had a short life of just 25 years between the time she was born on the 20th of October, and when she died on the 19th of October, 1917. Because of this, very little is known about her beyond those dates and the fact she married Jacob Rotberg, who immigrated from Sweden to Germany, on the 9th of June 1911 in Hamburg, Germany. Her husband would later die at the age of 51.

Else Brück

Index showing her German Nationality was annulled by the Nazis

Else was born on the 26 June 1893. Her date of death is unknown. On the 23rd of may, 1913, she married Julius Friedländer. One year later, in 1914, their son Gunter Friedlander was born in Halle, Germany.  Gunter would eventually make the trip over to the USA by himself at the age of 18 as a young photographer. He would die in Dade, Florida, USA in 1994 at the age of 79. The only other thing known about Else is that she was one of the many German Jews who had her German nationality annulled by the Nazis due to the Nuremberg laws of 1935. These laws deprived ethnic Jews of their political rights and prohibited them from marrying those of German blood.

Paula Brück

Paula Brück was born on the 10th of December 1894 in Hamburg, Germany. On the 10th of December 1894, she married Herbert Reihn. by 1950, when she left Germany for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, she was widowed. Nothing is known about her after her arrival in Brazil. Jewish immigration to Brazil has a long history, and Rio de Janeiro is just one of the cities with a thriving Jewish population.

James Brück

Born on the 20th of April, 1896, James was the only boy of the family. He never married and never had children. he died at the young age of 37 in Hamburg, Germany.

Erna Brück

The only thing known about Erna is that she was born in Hamburg, Germany on the 16th of December 1899.
